How this entrepreneur is utilizing a ‘peer-based approach’ to address Garland’s senior population
For Dadong Wan, building his own in-home care provider for senior communities in Garland was all about meeting the needs for a growing population.
In 2022, Garland had a total population of 240,854 with 12.2% being persons 65 years old and over, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
In May, Wan launched Seniors Helping Seniors Garland to prioritize hiring retired caregivers, teachers and nurses to care and offer companionship to less active senior residents in the region. As the owner and general manager, Wan oversees matching best part-time caregivers with clients to ensure both benefiting from the relationship.
“I want to focus on the positive impact of both caregivers and the people we serve,” Wan said.
The Garland care provider is a franchise location for Pennsylvania-based Seniors Helping Seniors.
Seniors Helping Seniors was founded in 1998 by husband-and-wife Kiran and Philip Yocom. In 2006, the company switched to a franchise model. The company allows for local owners of a Seniors Helping Seniors location to pay a franchise fee upfront to access branding and centralized services.
